Week 80: Four Baptisms Planned for Next Week!

This week went by a little slower than the other one did. Mostly because all of the appointments that fell through. We made good progress with our contacts and in working the area. All that is left is to find those people prepared to listen to us. I sure don't feel like I am senior companion with Elder C due to how much of the work load we both share. Feels like we have the same amount of responsibility.

We are trying to strengthen up this area the best we can, though at times it is really challenging. I know that things will work out if I just continue to work hard. My companion helps me because he makes me laugh at times. He is a jokester and tells me to repent for everything I do. Ha, ha, ha!

A lot of investigators celebrated birthdays this week and so we ran around from house to house gifting out 3 dollar cakes to each of them. One of the younger ones had a birthday clown performing at their house when we arrived and the father made me participate in the joke. The clown made me do the chicken dance and all the kids had a good laugh.

Next week we have 4 baptisms planned out which is really going to keep us occupied. Three of them asked me to perform the baptism which really makes me nervous. I have never baptized anyone before and all of a sudden I get to do three at once!! The ward seems really excited about these baptisms. Especially since two of them are 8 years old. I sure am proud of the mom and older boy that will be baptized too. They really have been working at this and have a true desire to learn about our father in heaven and to strengthen their families.

That's about all I have to say this week.

Love you all!!

Week 79: Success Tracting with Stake Youth

So very much happened that first full week in July that I couldn't finish this email in time! So here is last weeks news, Elder C and I worked really hard to complete our goals, the zone actually changed our goals to push us even higher! And by some miracle we were able to surpass these all!

Friday afternoon the zone leaders and district leaders met up together at the stake center to teach the youth of the stake specifically assigned topics. I of course ended up helping out because my companion is a district leader. It actually was really fun!!! We taught the you how to contact people and I was able to teach pretty well and the practices we did were very successful. Then the following day all the youth went out to preach and teach the gospel. I got paired up with two youth and an 18 year old. We had a lot of success throughout the day and some people who had previously never let us in warmed up to the idea when our 12 youth asked them to let us in. We had a great time together and I was happy they all were able to participate in the lessons. The 12 year old even shared a scripture during one of our lessons. I was so proud of him.

My new companion is Elder C. He is a pretty tall guy and super fun to be around. We have had a blast together these last few days. We even managed to meet nearly all of our weekly goals and I have high hopes for our area. Elder C. was a little sad that no one from the ward welcomed him, though I don't think it was intentional on their part. He still is pretty new here and this is his second area in the mission. I am trying to show him everything there is to know here in central though. There is so much to teach him it is a little overwhelming. Several members from the ward counsel went out with us Saturday to visit members and our investigators. It worked out really well and I was happy to feel their support. Well that's about it for now.

Write you all next week!

Week 78: Zone Against Zone Soccer Match

Sorry for getting to you so late in the day. Our zone had a wild p-day which started 9 AM in the morning and it just ended now. So this email will be short. We did a zone against zone football (soccer) match with our Mission President present since we all completed the last months goals. We all had a really good time and we even played ultimate Frisbee as a zone! My team won a match!

You suggested I get bug repellent to keep from getting the Zika virus was prophetic. Funny enough, it is now mission policy to use bug repellent daily. They will be supplying all of us with the proper spray here soon!!! Thanks dad for the info on Zika virus. I don't plan on getting married until I'm about 25 so I won't have to worry about any of that.
I hope that you and grandpa have a great time hunting for his birthday! That sounds so cool, hopefully you get an antelope!

I stay here in my area for one more change and my companion is headed out to another area.

Love you all!!!

Week 77: New Companion! Happy Fourth of July!

On Monday I was allowed to work in my area during divisions with one of my zone leaders Elder F. We actually had a really good time together catching up and joking around in English. We found some of Elder R's dirty under garments in the house while we were cleaning up so we burned them. They smoked a whole ton and the fire alarm went off inside our house even though we were burning them outside. But thanks to all our cleaning the house looked brand new! I felt like I was in college again as I took the opportunity to rearrange the furniture in the house to my liking.

My new companion Elder C is from Honduras and is the very successful district leader of a nearby area. He has one year on his mission and has already baptized 22 people. Teaching with him sure is different then the other companions I have been with, but still our purpose is the same. It's been kinda fun for me since I get to lead out in everything as I teach him the area. There is no guarantee that I will stay with him after changes next week so I need to teach him everything about the area!

We already have jumped up our regular weekly dates and have several investigators who have accepted a date to be baptized. The one I am most excited about is Enrique a 7 yr old boy we have been teaching since I first arrived here, his brother was baptized by Elder DLC awhile back. Anyway he is turning 8 at the end of this month and has asked me to baptize him! He is the first person who has every asked me to perform their baptismal ordinance so I really hope I stay.

I am finally cured from my sickness, though some residual after effects are still lingering. President Crapo held a mission wide meeting with all of us giving us further instruction on health and the dangers of the Zika Virus which the mosquitos here carry. I guess it is pretty dangerous (Guatemala is on Alert Level 2, Individuals Are to Practice Enhanced Precautions). Three of our Elders in this zone are down sick with it so it's pretty important to take extra precautions here.

I have doubled my productivity each night by catching up on all the dirty laundry from these last few weeks. I also have been waking up 30 minutes earlier now to get a jump start on the day.

I sure do love you all and hope you guys have a great fourth of July!!
