Week 100: Making Good Use of the Time I Have Left

I was saying goodbye to people we taught and friends and we finally had just entered a local internet to write to you all when suddenly one of my converts called saying they would be gone come our appointment so we left right away so I could say goodbye to them. We just got back so I have 30 minutes to write!

I actually don't give shots or anything like that, but there is one missionary who has given shots due to his past job as a nurse so he gave me a shot once.

Yes, I am sure that I won't need money. I have enough just in case there is an emergency, so I am all good. Plus my great companion gave me $20 sols which is like five dollars, that way I can buy lunch at the airport if I want. I will make sure that I leave room to eat with you all at the restaurant after I am released!!

I have been with Elder C (from Peru) for about 7 weeks now. He is a great guy. A good friend and a wonderful companion. Elder C knows his away around our area so he will do just great. Besides, he will be removed from the area for a week or two until they can find a new companion for him so he won't have anything to worry about until next year. No one else has changes/transfers besides me and those of my group!

Oh no!!! Is grandma doing alright?? That's too scary mom, falls like that at her age can turn for the worst!! How wonderful of her to think of and honor God as she did despite the trials she faced. I hope she will be able to come for the wedding!! That would be sad if she couldnt come.

Well, Ive got to go back to being a missionary. Just one more week of this lifestyle to enjoy so I best make good use of it. Love you all so much, talk with you here soon!!!

Week 99: Great Zone Service Project!!

My companion and I participated in a great service project along with our zone. We cleaned and painted and did some remodeling to a member's house who lives in our zone. It was fun working together!

It’s all going well here in Guatemala. Just saying goodbye to all the families I’ve met. NO, No, no... Don’t send me anymore money. I have enough in Quetzales to cover any luggage overage fees and I am sure it will work out anyway regardless. I can go hungry for one meal during my layover in Los Angeles. More room for dinner with you all Saturday night!!!!

What, is CJ really getting married here soon? Aw man, I am totally being left behind by everyone. Whatever, guess I am destined to walk the dusty road solo.  Well, I have my very last interview with president tomorrow and from there I just have a meeting or two to conduct! Got to finish up some final papers for tomorrow.

Love you all! Our last email is next week!!!!

Week 98: Glad The Stake Forwarded My Itinerary

Last Monday we were really tied down running mission errands from place to place. Today as well come to think of it. This time we left earlier though and now we are writing and fixing things up for next week.

Unfortunately, they cut off our water which really stinks. We have had to bath with water bottles. It is really chilly right now too which makes things worse. Oh well, besides all that things are cool here finishing up the mission.

Sorry to hear that you guys didn't get that email from the mission office. I'm glad that brother Evans told you that my group is flying home a week earlier than you originally thought. I am also glad that he forwarded my flight itinerary that the stake president received otherwise that would have been a bummer.

I will let you all know if there is anything else cool that happens to me in these last few weeks of the mission, who knows what will happen.

Love you!!!

The mission office had both Robin and I's email address wrong. This made me think of the movie The R.M.. I attached a link below of the movie trailer. Here is a little write up on the trailer so you will understand why I thought of this movie.
"Now that his mission has come to an end, Jared is ready to return to normal life and all of the perks that come with it. He has a beautiful girlfriend, a great job, a loving family, a chance to go to a prestigious university and his trusty old car all waiting for him. Now he can reap the many blessings of his obedient and faithful service. Or so he thinks. The disappointment starts when he steps off the airplane to find that his family has mistaken the date of his return and there is no one waiting for him. The surprises don't stop there. His family has moved, there is a Tongan exchange student sleeping in his bedroom, and - of course - his girlfriend is engaged." Enjoy!!

Week 97 : BYU Idaho or Bust!!

Thanks mom for helping with updating my student stuff online. Thanks Lexie for getting me enrolled in classes at BYU-I! Thanks Lauren for looking for an apartment for me. I can’t write much. I have to make sure that everything is set with my classes and all.

Love you so much, thanks for everything!!!

Week 96: President Crapo Fed Our Zone Breakfast!!

President Crapo rewarded our zone with breakfast for having reached our zone baptismal goal in October. We all had a great time.

Guatemalan businesses do decorate for Christmas, but besides that, no one else does. Some people leave Halloween lights up for Christmas which makes me laugh, though most people just light off fireworks for every holiday.

Evan is coming to Sun River as well!!! That's awesome!! Thanks for sharing that sister missionary's great testimony! I am sure that this sister was really converted! I said a quick prayer for Lexi and her family to get home safely from Idaho. Sounds like they have been sick as a family that's too bad.

Thank you for being willing to take me out shopping when I get home. I don't have much clothing for when I get home and I actually was worried about that. I can't wait to see you all in 19 days!!

Sorry, got to go run an errand in another zone. I get to run errands everywhere and anywhere as a leader. Don't worry I cleared up the water issue and even got the electricity to work. I finally have hot water my last 5 weeks on my mission!! No, I don't need money, thanks for looking out for me though.

Give my love to everyone!

They were given the title of "Celestial Zone"

Week 95: Great Peruvian Companion!

My week went by wonderfully. My companion is a good guy from Peru and is pretty new out on his mission. I like the guy and we have good conversations. I made food almost everyday this week for us to eat and I shared everything that I made with him.

The baptism last week went wonderfully and the ward was super surprised this past Sunday when the bishop announced her as the newest member of the ward. She has been attending for about 4 years without progress and with us in a matter of two weeks she was baptized. Miracles am I right? Still not sure what to do about school and I just hope that whatever I decide on does not determine too much of my future.

I still don't know how I will be finishing up my mission here. Though it is sounding pretty sold about a third missionary coming with us so that Elder C. won't be left without a companion come my time to leave. Its all pretty exciting. I don't know what to expect for these last few weeks.

We won't be able to go touring this time around due to new rules on the mission, but we will go to the Guatemalan zoo before I go which sounds fun. I bought a few things at the central market today. We went as a zone for our activity. It was fun!

The weather right now is really really sunny, but it rains every now and then, and at night it is crazy cold, to me at least. I can't imagine the weather back home I would die.

I am happy that everyone is getting married back home. That takes the pressure off of me to marry soon. I guess I can live through my bachelor life worry free.

Well I got to go, things are crazy busy here, but I guess that's just normal for me now.

Hugs and kisses,
Elder Perez

Week 94: We Had a Baptism!!

Well the baptism went by wonderfully!! I couldn't be happier to have performed the ordinance. I was a little shocked at first when ward members didn't show up except the bishop. It turns out that the sister wanted it to be a private affair with just family.

I am getting along really well with this ward and my new companion. He has 6 months on the mission and is very innocent, as a missionary should be. To tell you the truth, it almost makes me laugh how pure he is. I feel like I've become some pessimistic old man here in Guatemala. It does look as if I will be finishing my mission here in Santa Elena, unless my mission president sends me to another place to finish in trio. It sounds as if everyone from my group is going to be put into a trio because we all are going home two weeks earlier then normal for Christmas and our companions need to stay together until the 27th of December.

Lets see, what I have learned about myself. Well for starters, I speak Spanish pretty dang well. As for spiritually, I know that my Father in Heaven is always ready and willing to help me. All I need to do is put in my part and the blessings will come. I have found that the gospel is so much more simple than the majority of people make it to be. There is no big secrets in this work, just obedience and sincerity. I have room for improvement in those two areas, but I find great comfort in knowing that once on those paths I can't go wrong.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get anything on the hunt dad, that must have been frustrating. With grandpa getting an antelope does that mean we will all try a bite of antelope meat during the holidays?

Oh, so my recently purchased shoes of three months ago got totally destroyed last Friday. I am currently wearing some borrowed old tennis shoes from a missionary here in the zone. Do you think you could send me some money through Western Union by Wednesday? If at all possible. Oh, and you can take it right out of my personal account so no worries.

Sure do love you all. Hope you enjoy your Halloween back state side. Eat a Butterfinger for me!!
